ReOrient Lecture Series

We are excited to announce our first lecture series entitled "ReOrient," which will take place online on June 6, 13, and 20. In this series, we will discuss foundational theories of colonialism and Orientalism, particularly in the ways that these theories continue to shape our world and influence—and, indeed, limit—who we can be in that world. The series consists of two lectures and culminates in a workshop where attendees can apply concepts covered in the lectures by reimagining spaces that are no longer dominated by colonial and Orientalist paradigms.

Though on the surface these topics appear to be political, we will consider them through a more personal lens, focusing particularly on the internalization of colonialism and Orientalism—that is, on the ways that colonial frameworks have become embedded in our thinking to such an extent that it colors the way we view ourselves, our culture, our tradition, our histories, and our ways of life. The topics we will cover are emancipatory, in that they deliver us from mythologies that have for centuries served to disparage, subdue, and silence certain identities. Hence, this series is especially relevant for people interested in creating a more equitable, pluriversal future for all.

If these ideas resonate with you, you can learn more about the series and register here. We hope you will join us.
